Summary:

The Project Manager (PM) is expected to drive the execution of projects and programs by leading the planning, coordination, execution and close-out phases with all internal and external stakeholders. Projects range from single site installations to portfolios across the U.S. and Canada and can include, but are not limited to, energy efficiency, back-up generation, batteries and other distributed energy technologies. PMs are responsible for providing estimating guidance, third party vendor and contractor management, schedule development/management, management of commercial terms and customer management. The PM will also be responsible for supporting development of new programs by enabling sales, creating procedures with cross functional groups, such as sales, legal, customer care, asset mgmt., etc.

 

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Directly manage internal and external stakeholders, as required, to drive project to be delivered on-time, within scope and budget.
  • Directly manage third party vendors and contractors to support project development and execution.
  • Responsible for working closely with sales organization and customer management during various project phases.
  • Lead contract development and negotiations for any third-party vendors and contractors required to deliver successful projects.
  • Manage all third-party vendors and contractor agreements to include, but not limited to, flow downs, risk mitigation and change management. 
  • Create project execution plans to include communications protocols, change management and escalation paths Coordinate and run internal and external meetings, including build out of agenda, minutes, actions, presentations and planned messaging.
  • Develop and perform evaluation of RFPs and objectives, involving all relevant stakeholders and ensuring technical compliance.
  • Prepare and present project updates to senior management on a routine basis.
  • Measure project performance using appropriate systems, tools and techniques.
  • Identify and develop Lessons Learned to distribute to the broader team.

 

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
  • 5 years’ experience working in one or more aspects of the design, construction and operation of utility, industrial or institutional projects.
  • 5 years of client-facing experience required

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in engineering or construction management
  • PMP certification is strongly preferred

 

Working Conditions:

  • Standard office environment with open office seating.
  • Outdoor work at project locations in a construction environment.
  • Willingness to travel up to 50% of the time to project locations, vendor sites or other NRG offices.

 

Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of power distribution and load management principles and applications.
  • Understanding of behind the meter generation solutions.
  • Knowledge of construction processes from development through closeout
  • Knowledge of governmental approval process (Emissions/Air permitting, construction permitting, interconnection approvals from utilities).
  • Ability to simultaneously manage multiple projects, anticipate issues, solve practical problems and identify risks, obligations and scope gaps on projects.
  • Solid organizational skills including attention to detail and multi-tasking skills.
  • Ability to accomplish tasks timely with minimal supervision and exercise independent judgment.
  • Highly adaptable to changing needs within the organizations- adapts to rapidly changing priorities and resilient to coping with conflicting demands, able to prioritize duties and work under pressure.
  • Ability to work in a team with high emotional intelligence and foster teamwork.
  • Ability to navigate and manage personnel in a complex matrix organizational structure with little guidance.
  • Flexible in work assignment.
  • Willing to mentor/coach peers.
  • Behave ethically and within the values of NRG.
  • Excellent proficiency using entire MS Office and 365 suite of tools, specifically MS Projects, Access, SharePoint, PowerPoint, Word and Excel

  • Ability to pass safety and health requirements to gain access to offices and/or project construction sites.
