Job Summary: 

Responsible for working with the NRG Development, Engineering and Construction team to conduct financial analyses of electric generating projects and new business opportunities.

 

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

Specific duties include but are not limited to:

  • Performing financial analysis to support go/no go investment decisions on combined cycle, peaking, co-generation, wind, solar and energy storage projects;
  • Assisting with collecting and managing project and portfolio model inputs through coordination with business development, operations, tax, treasury, structuring, and various other applicable functional groups within NRG;
  • Assisting with project due diligence efforts, feasibility studies and other strategic efforts related to development, acquisition, and asset management;
  • Performing economic and market research studies;
  • Preparing presentations to senior management for project approval. 
  • Providing regular support, financial insight, analyses, and recommendations to business teams and leaders
  • Interacting with various departments within NRG while continually seeking opportunities to improve processes
  • Assisting in ad-hoc projects as needed and providing analytical support to the business
  • This role will have no direct reports.  

 

Working Conditions:

  • Open office and plant environments
  • Some overtime or work during non-standard hours as required
  • Ability to Travel within the U.S. 

 

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a Business field or an MBA or a Master's in a Business field.
  • Five years of experience as senior financial analyst, including building Excel models for cogeneration, energy, traditional energy assets, acquisitions, and related project finance transactions
  • Understanding of tax equity financing structures, project modeling, and accounting and financial statements
  • Knowledge and experience in one of more of the following markets:   ERCOT, MISO, PJM, CAISO, ISO-NE, NYISO.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with other functions such as tax, treasury, structuring, plant operations, risk, finance, accounting, investor relations, and commercial operations.    
  • Strong working knowledge of GAAP and financial management is critical

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Finance, Business Administration or related field is strongly preferred

  • Ability to engage with and influence senior management
  • Demonstrated commitment to quality and strong attention to detail
  • Experience in working both independently (self-starter) and in a team-oriented environment
  • Ability to conform to shifting priorities, demands and timelines within a fast-paced environment

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit and use computer and phone for prolonged periods
  • Ability to walk around potential job sites
