Job Summary: 

Responsible for leading commercial strategy development for procuring project major equipment and Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) services within a team environment.  Administers the approved strategy from Request for Proposal Package (RFP) development to final negotiation of an executable agreement. 


Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Embraces Safety as NRG’s highest priority. This position ensures our business partners demonstrate safety values in line with NRG expectations and have programs in compliance with federal and state regulations and NRG requirements.
  • Serves as primary liaison with Senior Director &Vice President in formulating project commercial strategy for project execution.
  • Directs the development of Request for Proposal packages, in coordination with Supply Chain, for major generation equipment specifications (conventional, renewable and energy storage), and Engineering, Procurement & Construction services to include scope, technical specification, division of responsibilities, guarantees and all other required commercial documents to form a complete proposal package.
  • Leads contract negotiations with Supply Chain support for major generation equipment, energy storage and EPC services including long term service agreements
  • Leads proposal evaluation team and ensures process is fair and equitable and complies with all company requirements and standards   
  • Coordinates and maintains professional relationship with contractual partners and vendors. Arranges periodic face to face meetings with senior leadership.
  • Periodically leads Project Development Engineering developing project general arrangement, technical design basis, verifying interconnection services for fuel, water, or High Voltage electrical. 
  • Provides engineering support for environmental permitting efforts.  Prepares equipment and EPC specifications and ensures the project will comply with all applicable codes and standards.    
  • Regularly reports project progress on regularly-established intervals to DE&C team and senior/executive management
  • Mentors developing staff members such that development and progression is defined and visible.

Minimum Requirements:

  • B.S. or Masters in Engineering, Physics or Chemistry
  • 15 years minimum relevant experience in project development, engineering, construction, or operations in utility-scale generation facilities
  • Exceptional people and communication skills (verbal and written communication, consensus building, and coaching)
  • Solid, demonstrated experience in forming and managing project team
  • Business Travel to project sites, vendor offices & conferences  (approximately 25% of time)


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master of Business Administration and/or Professional Engineer’s license
  • Professional experience in a power generation environment.  
  • General understanding of renewable power and energy storage systems
  • Proforma financial modeling and analysis experience


Physical Requirements:

  • Physically capable of walking plant sites on stone and uneven surfaces.
