Job Summary: 

The Senior Analyst, Competitive Intelligence position is a role within the Retail business designed to implement and maintain ongoing competitive research, and to provide analysis and recommendations to senior management.  This position will identify and answer critical competitive business questions, innovatively analyze competitive information, and communicate insights and recommended actions to the organization, exercising initiative and acting with minimal supervision while keeping management informed.


Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Act as a competitive intelligence (CI) and knowledge specialist aligned with multiple departments, teams, and senior management.
  • Network with business managers and key internal customers to identify and understand vital strategic business information/analytical issues - collect and document requirements - deliver information solutions to support business user needs
  • Maintain ongoing CI monitoring and communication, conducting special CI initiatives as needed.
  • Regularly review CI deliverables to assess effectiveness in meeting internal customer needs, and modify or enhance deliverables to better meet business needs
  • Collaborate with Marketing, Supply and other departments to leverage key insights and maintain competitive edge
  • Build and maintain competitor, market and offer landscapes
  • Manage storage of CI documents and deliverables
  • Research market share statistics for competitors from public sources and paid subscriptions; report competitor customer count, both as a current snapshot and historical trend
  • Track industry news on a daily basis; curate to create a short list of key headlines on a weekly basis for executive management; distribute a “CI Alert” when major news happens that can impact the TX Retail business
  • Continuously monitor competitive retail electricity landscape to provide stakeholders with appropriate competitor intelligence related to key metrics (Market Share, Growth, Customer Counts)
  • Create “Deep Dive” reports on each of Reliant’s major competitors (report topics include geographic markets served, management team, products & services, marketing activity, M&A activity, channel strategy, customer count and market share, plus other characteristics that define the competitor)
  • Support Reliant marketing efforts through analysis of competitor acquisition and retention strategies
  • Listen to earnings calls of all publicly traded competitors, and report highlights to executive management team
  • Perform ad hoc research requested by business units in support of business strategy development
  • Additional duties as assigned


Minimum Requirements:

  • A Bachelor's Degree in finance, accounting, business administration, economics or engineering
  • 2+ years’ work experience analyzing data,
  • 2 years expereince using Microsoft office.  Must be highly proficient in Excel and PowerPoint.  


Preferred Qualifications:

  • MBA or relevant graduate degree is preferred.
  • Experience in financial analysis.  
  • Marketing, Consulting, or Strategy work a plus.


Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills to conduct financial modeling and data-driven analysis
  • Broad knowledge and experience with the information technology used for searching, delivering and sharing of information and intelligence.
  • Excellent search and research skills, including experience with the use of online databases and the Internet.
  • Flexibility to work in fast-paced, environment with “hands-on” team player approach.
  • Comfort with ambiguity; ability to work with incomplete data or seemingly open-ended questions and translate into actionable analysis
  • Proficient in handling multiple concurrent projects and deadlines
  • Superior written and verbal presentation skills with a keen eye for detail
  • Able to communicate effectively to all levels of the organization in verbal and written form.
  • High integrity, energy and enthusiasm
  • Superior knowledge of leading computer tools including Excel, Word, PowerPoint.


Physical Requirements:

  • The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading.
  • Occasional overtime work may be required.
  • Professional, fast paced, high intensity office environment.
