Job Summary: 

 

NRG Energy is seeking an Asset Manager for our Gulf Coast Region.  This position provides professional business services to maximize the Gulf Coast Region financial performance and optimize the Gulf Coast assets.  This is accomplished by providing strategic recommendations and analysis of power plant operations within the Gulf Coast portfolio to deliver maximum financial value to the Company.

 

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

 

Include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Budgeting and P&L performance responsibility for generating assets within the Gulf Coast Region portfolio.
  • Partner with, assist and advise, operating company management and commercial team to maximize the economic value of regional facilities and prevent any undue constraints or limitations on the ability of the company to conduct business successfully.
  • Perform financial analyses, project evaluations, perform due diligence and make recommendations in support of acquisitions, divestitures, recovery plans and other major projects and capital investment and revenue enhancement proposals.
  • Prepare valuation analyses, divestiture, acquisition, re-powering and other strategic alternatives to help ensure that the business plan is optimized for maximum sustainable value.
  • Perform economic research and studies as required in the areas such as depreciation, working capital requirements, investment performance, and impact of governmental requirements/regulations.
  • Work closely with operations, treasury, tax, accounting, and commercial operations to determine appropriate modeling assumptions and structuring.
  • Gather, analyze, prepare, and summarize recommendations for financial plans, acquisition activity, future requirements, operating forecasts, etc.
  • Provide analytical support to Vice President of Gulf Coast Asset Management and regional team as required.
  • Assist negotiations with PUCs, ISOs, city, county and state authorities and governing boards.
  • Others as assigned by manager including responsibility for relationship with long-term customers, partners or joint asset owners, transmission providers, etc.
  • Interface for regional Business Development and Construction activities as-needed.

 

Working Conditions:

  • Normal office environment and/or power plant environment
  • Requires operation of a motor vehicle; Texas Driver’s License

 

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s in accounting, engineering, finance, economics or business/science degree, and a minimum of five years of experience in the successful commercial management of assets. 
  • Must have extensive experience using Powerpoint and making presentations and using Excel with a focus in economic modeling.   
  • 20% travel throughout the region and to other NRG locations.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree preferred
  • Power/utility experience

 

Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong knowledge of wholesale electric markets in the ERCOT, MISO, Entergy
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and an honest, open communication style with the ability to effectively get buy in from various groups at different locations.
  • Demonstrated computer literacy, including internet, Excel, Word, etc.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage the business environment across a portfolio of generation plants; technically oriented with experience in, gas and/or coal technology.
  • Strong business and financial savvy with the ability to support a high performance organization that will deliver operational excellence and meet or exceed financial targets.

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Occasionally requires wearing personal protective safety equipment (respirators, safety glasses, hard hat, appropriate footwear, ear plugs, appropriate gloves, etc.)
  • May be required to work around rotating and energized equipment, hazardous materials and chemicals (except Training Assistant)
  • Occasionally requires lifting as appropriate to perform duties and responsibilities
