Maintain and repair various electrical equipment required to generate and transmit electricity and steam in a safe, efficient, reliable and environmentally sound manner.

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Performs preventive and corrective maintenance on power plant electrical equipment and wiring.
  • Performs skilled electromechanical repair work on plant and substation equipment and instruments.
  • Inspects, repairs and maintains electrical and/or electro-mechanical operating and control systems, equipment and fixtures, including instrumentation and heating and cooling systems.
  • Inspects, maintains and repairs wiring and lighting systems, meters, electrical control equipment, outlets and panels.
  • Establishes and maintains scheduled electrical maintenance program for the plant’s equipment.
  • Repairs electrical and electronic instruments.
  • Keeps electrical maintenance records, and prepares labor and material estimates.
  • Repair, test, troubleshoot, inspect and install, remove and maintain such equipment as generators, transformers, breakers, switchgear, motors and auxiliary electrical equipment, freeze protection, cabling, substation components and power feeds.
  • Sets up rigging for installing or removing equipment.
  • Diagnoses and corrects electrical equipment troubles and repairs or recommends major repairs.
  • Provide support to other crafts and vendors including installations of temporary lighting, removal of piping and cables.
  • Clean, test and install batteries.
  • Perform electrical tests on Cathodic Protection, install cables and anodes.
  • Operate heavy equipment such as overhead and mobile cranes, forklifts, and bucket trucks; use hand tools and power tools to repair plant equipment.
  • Perform routine and emergency repairs of plant equipment.
  • Maintain job site in a safe manner.
  • Coordinates work activities with other crafts or contractors.
  • Assist in providing skill enhancement training to other personnel.
  • Communicates status of jobs, work issues to management and craft personnel.
  • Follow safety practices for personal protection, protection of fellow workers and the protection of the public.
  • Assist operations and other maintenance personnel (e.g. mechanical, I&C) in the performance of assigned duties.
  • Coordinate contractor/vendor activities as assigned
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned 

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

 

A.  EDUCATION

 

1.High School diploma or equivalent.

 

B.  EXPERIENCE

 

1.Fully Qualified Technician requires Ten (10) years (including apprenticeship) of industrial electric maintenance experience in the repair, inspection, testing, installation and/or maintenance of related power plant equipment (including plant and substation)

 

 

C.  SPECIAL SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/QUALIFICATIONS

 

Familiarity with high voltage transmission gained through actual experience with high voltage substation equipment installation, testing and maintenance.

Successful candidates must receive a rating of Recommended on the Pre-employment Assessment test.  

 

WORKING CONDITIONS

 

  • Normal office environment and/or out-of-doors work environment. Out-of-doors environment at generating plant locations include:
  • Work in and around rotating equipment, high voltage electrical equipment, high noise areas and elevations up to 150 feet. 
  • Work in all temperatures and climatic conditions.  Some temperatures can be extreme. 
  • Work in confined spaces, some requiring the use of respirator protective equipment. 
  • Performance of duties requires response to calls 24 hours/day, seven days/week and working irregular shifts.  
  • Emergency situations will require the use of a respirator. 
  • Established facial hair in the sealing area of a respirator is not permitted at any time. 
  • Contact lenses are not permitted except for specific medical reasons. 
  • Substantial footwear must be worn
