Position Summary:


The Meter Shop Technician (MST) is tasked with supporting the NRG CS technicians and the scheduling team members. The position will be based in our Buffalo-based office and the corresponding NRG Meter Shop. This role includes programming and wiring metering devices and assisting with technical troubleshooting. The MST is also responsible for shipping and receiving inventory between our technicians, vendors, and contractors. The MST will also spend roughly 20% of their time in the field by completing communication repairs and equipment deliveries. The position requires constant coordination with both the technical and scheduling teams of the NRG Metering Department. The MST will report directly to the Metering Operations Manager.


Principal Responsibilities:


  • Taking technician phone calls to commission metering devices
  • Metering device programming and wiring
  • Shipping and receiving responsibilities
  • Responsible for tracking and physical inventory
  • Ability to lift upwards of 50lbs
  • Must be able to operate basic hand and power tools
  • Hardware troubleshooting of settings and other “in the field” fixes with technicians
  • Return Merchandise Authorization with Vendors
  • Strong organizational skills are a must due to fast-changing requests
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize workload to meet business needs
  • Proficiency in learning new technologies
  • The clean driving record is required for travel
  • Ability to travel for multiple days, consecutive overnights,  at least 20% of the month


Minimum Qualifications


  • High School diploma or GED equivalent
  • Minimum of two years of experience in a technical or labor related role
  • Must have a valid driver's license and a clean driving record
  • Must be able to travel overnight up to 20% of the time
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Must have intermediate computer skills, including strong knowledge of MS Office products
  • Must have excellent communication skills


Preferred Qualifications

  • Inventory and SAP experience a plus
  • 2-year degree or relevant work experience
