Job Summary

The Real Time Operations Dispatcher role will work inside the Network Operations Center (NOC) and is responsible for the monitoring of grid conditions, dispatching after hours notifications for demand response curtailment events, and providing event forecasting and analytics reporting.


Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

• Manage real-time operations of NRG’s distributed asset portfolio, including dispatching resources based upon contract commitments, economic conditions, and operational constraints to enable profitability of the portfolio

• Take and/or direct real-time actions in accordance with ISO, utility, co-op, customer or NRG commitments and/or procedures

• Coordinate unit availability, outage schedules, and unit schedules.

• Continually communicate all necessary information to appropriate internal and external parties/personnel

• Communicate operational issues and implement improvements to existing systems and procedures

• Understand the responsibility of providing NRG’s distributed customers reliability and resiliency

• Monitor and analyze available market information alongside contract commitments to identify dispatching, optimizing, and trading opportunities

• Manage the monitoring of real-time customer performance data during dispatch

• Manage after-hours inbound calls

• Manage required documentation in dispatch event management software for compliance purposes

• Communicate any event monitoring systems errors to IT support, participate in pre-production systems testing, and ensure that system updates do not create an adverse effect on business operations

• Build and analyze event forecasting and analytics reports and efficacy

• Perform additional duties as assigned


Working Conditions

• The Real Time Operations Dispatcher role will require working outside of normal business hours and will require a rotating shift on a 24-hour operational schedule (However, during the initial training phase, which may last up to 2 months, the hours will be 8:30 am – 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday.)


Minimum Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or relevant work experience 

• Intermediate proficiency of Microsoft Excel and the Microsoft Office Suite

• Must be available to fulfill storm/event duty requirements, which may include: ◦Reporting to work during winter storms or other possible catastrophic events

• Working extended shifts as necessary until storm or event conditions reside

• Proven ability to think critically and provide leadership in fast paced, hectic environments

• Proven ability to make creative, logical, solution based decisions in the absence of direct supervision

• Proven ability to communicate clearly, both orally and in writing

• Ability to manage high-stress situations calmly and effectively


Preferred Qualifications

• Previous Energy industry experience

• Knowledge of Demand Response Programs, Distributed Asset Operation and/or “Behind The Meter” programs

• NERC or PJM certification are a plus
