Job Summary: 

NRG’s Distributed Energy Resources (DER) team manages a broad portfolio of consultative supply and demand side product and service offerings that can be tailored to meet the energy and operational needs of any Commercial or Industrial client.  In delivering these important capabilities, the DER team is responsible for product strategy, origination, structuring, negotiation, and the implementation of these solutions for large consumers of energy across North America. 

NRG’s DER team is comprised of energy experts who serve as trusted advisors for strategic energy, provide customers with the highest level of market expertise, and deliver a supreme level of customer satisfaction.  These solutions include providing sophisticated energy commodity purchasing and management strategies coupled with demand management as well as local asset optimization that increases efficiencies, reduces costs, and manages risks. This innovative team is changing the way businesses produce and consume energy and are driving a transformation of the industry by creating solutions that assert NRG as a dominant force in the energy consulting arena.

 

Role and Responsibilities:

The role requires a blend of skills including business development, strategy, strategic partnership development, strategic selling, customer and partner relationship management. The ideal candidate possesses a combination of analytical skills and leadership/influencing traits and the ability to stay ahead of, as well as anticipate, business needs in a fast-paced environment. The individual will interface with multiple internal and external groups to deliver on complex energy management strategies.  A high degree of initiative and capability to work independently and cross-functionally is required for this role, so strong communication skills are a must.  The position will also require the individual to have a strong understanding of NRG’s Vision, Mission, business units, offerings, and processes.

 

The DER Sales Representative will initiate contact and manage leads, as well as close leads provided through the Inside Sales Call Center. The DER Sales Representative is responsible for every aspect of the partnership between NRG and their customers and fully satisfying the customer’s energy management initiatives. The DER Sales Representative is also responsible for introducing alternative energy management strategies offered jointly through NRG Curtailment Solutions and NRG Advisory Services.  Representatives are expected to engage with potential customers and identify customer needs using the full breadth of services offered by NRG Curtailment Solutions and NRG Advisory Services. 

 

  • Full understanding of all NRG programs and services to educate customers
  • Open communication with management regarding reports and expected deal flow
  • Follow up with assigned leads, personally generated leads, and customer referrals
  • Identify prospects and make initial contact with potential customers
  •  Attend training sessions and meetings when needed

 

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Must maintain a high level of knowledge about electric and natural gas markets. 
  • Must maintain an expansive knowledge of all  NRG programs and services
  • Must work efficiently in both a team environment and as an independent strategic consulting setting.
  •  Ability to be a self-starter with minimal supervision
  • Ability to develop and implement strategic energy roadmap
  • Strong presentation and negotiation skills
  • Strong written, oral, and interpersonal skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office: Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.
  •  Working knowledge of electricity and natural gas market
  • Ability to travel to customer and partner facilities for onsite meetings, site assessments, and presentations

 

Working Conditions:

  • Open office environment
  • The extra time required as special projects arise
  • Minimal travel

 

Minimum Requirements:

  • Associates degree or equivalent combination of education and/or experience
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in sales
  • Previous experience prospecting, presenting, and closing

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous Energy experience
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 2 plus years of experience in developing, selling, implementing and managing complex energy supply, demand, and renewable consulting solutions for the large commercial and industrial sector.
