Responsibilities

 

  • Lead Asset Management and Operations Group, team of 15-20+ staff (team is growing), which is daily engaged in providing asset management & commercial optimization and ISO scheduling/dispatch and settlement services to a > 7 GW customer base including generation (gas, coal, renewables), storage, and retail electric and gas providers, across most of the US ISOs (including PJM, CAISO, ERCOT, ISO-NE, NYISO, and MISO).
  • Maintain understating of ISO marketplace (energy, ancillaries and capacity) rules and procedures in and their effect on asset operations, merchant value and trading strategies.
  • Ensure compliance with Boston Energy and Corporate parent policies applicable to the team.
  • Actively coach and develop team members by assessing strengths and developmental needs and providing timely and specific feedback. Provide team members with challenging assignments and opportunities for development.
  • Partner with Boston Energy Business Development to contribute to new client proposals and marketing to help grow the business. Promote and cultivate customer relationships.

     

    Specific Asset Management Responsibilities Include:

     

  • Responsible for third-party and internal customer engagement; lead daily asset strategy customer calls, manage customer relationships, resolve customer issues.
  • Maintain an understanding of the power & gas markets and their impact on daily and longer-term asset strategies (including weather, outages, power transmission and gas pipeline constraints, regulatory uncertainty, etc.).
  • Support power analytical work, including pricing hedges and structured products such as tolls; oversee/assist generation valuation/simulation activities.
  • Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies consistent with customer risk and financial objectives.
  • Develop and implement power generation and energy storage pricing/bidding strategies.
  • Determine and implement power, fuel, emissions, capacity hedging strategies and timing.
  • Execute bilateral and exchange-cleared power and gas trades, enter trades in trade capture system, monitor transaction book performance.

     

    Operations Team Management Responsibilities Include:

     

  • Team oversight of NERC CIP compliant 24x7 control room team with three shifts.
  • Team oversight of ISO settlements staff performing shadow settlements and ISO dispute resolution.
  • Management responsibility for maintaining compliance with NERC, FERC and other relevant regulatory guidelines applicable to Boston Energy’s activities.
  • Management responsibility for continuous process improvement and an exceptional degree of process integrity to reduce/eliminate process breakdowns or operational process failures.

 

Minimum Requirements

 

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, economics, business, finance, or other relevant fields.  
  • 10+ years power asset optimization & hedging experience in US ISOs, strong and proven market knowledge, energy trading and asset management experience.
  • Demonstrated team leadership, commercial acumen, and maturity in judgment.
  • Ability to implement a team-oriented, results-driven approach in an entrepreneurial environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Self-motivated to achieve success in a rapidly evolving environment.
  • Must have expertise with respect to ISO regulatory environment, transmission dynamics, competition, operating procedures, and requirements.
  • Experience in risk assessment and hedging or mitigation strategies.
  • Experience with industry-standard trading control procedures/policies/best practice.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced technical degree (or MBA) 
  • Previous experience with power market and asset simulation and option modeling desirable.
