GOAL ZERO is looking for a Project and Sourcing Manager to work within our Product Development team, managing new product efforts in our Mobile Power categories. These include development projects that will continue to push our product roadmap forward in the Power Banks, Portable Solar, and Lanterns/Lighting categories. The development projects are focused on sourcing and customizing existing designs from contract manufacturing partners. The ideal candidate would have extensive experience with consumer product goods as a project manager or sourcing specialist, working on various products from ideation through to launch and delivery to market, especially ones sourced from overseas manufacturers. Experience with consumer electronics, solar technology, lithium batteries, injection molded plastics, and related technologies used in portable power systems is a major plus. Experience working in China and other East Asian countries also a major plus. This role will include collaboration with cross-functional internal teams, including working with Engineering and Design, Sales, Marketing, Operations, legal counsel, as well as a robust interaction and management of a network of manufacturing partners responsible for the core design and manufacturing of the products.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Define project scope, goals and deliverables that support business goals in collaboration with senior management and stakeholders.
  • Identify and validate potential suppliers for new product development efforts, finding those with appropriate product lines, technical and manufacturing capabilities, and quality standards to become Goal Zero vendor partners.
  • Maintain a strong relationship with the existing vendor network and stay up-to-date on their technology and product design offerings, using this to drive the most efficient speed to market projects as well as to inform potential new projects for the Goal Zero product roadmap.
  • Focused on supporting a healthy and comprehensive product portfolio for the Mobile Power categories, including Power Banks, Portable Solar, and Lanterns/Lighting product families
  • Create and execute project work plans and revise as appropriate to meet changing needs and requirements.
  • Set and continually manage project expectations with team members and other stakeholders.
  • Manage day-to-day operational aspects of a project, including identifying needed resources, assigning, and following up on individual responsibilities, with a focus on managing suppliers to meet project requirements in terms of scope, cost, and schedule.
  • Prepare for design reviews, stage gate and go/no-go meetings, and other administrative or document deliverables as part of the project management team at Goal Zero, as well as regular status meetings with the project team and stakeholders.
  • Ensures project documents are complete, current, and stored appropriately.
  • Determines appropriate revenue recognition, ensures timely and accurate invoicing, and monitors receivables for project.  
  • Manages project budget. Plans and tracks budgets and expenditures for cost control.  Prepares cost control recommendations and scope changes for a given product or project.
  • Understands basic revenue models, P/L, and cost-to-completion projections and makes decisions accordingly.
  • Effectively communicates relevant project information to appropriate levels of management.
  • Delivers engaging, informative, well-organized presentations.
  • Resolves and/or escalates issues in a timely fashion. 
  • Identifies opportunities for improvement and makes constructive suggestions for change.
  • Keeps track of lessons learned and shares those lessons with team members.
  • Coach, mentor, motivate and supervise project team members and contractors, and influence them to take positive action and accountability for their assigned work.


Minimum Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate and engage with different departments and key stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task within cross-functional teams
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite
  • Must be able to travel overnight (both domestically and internationally) up to 20%
  • Must have (or have the ability to obtain) a valid passport


Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business or Marketing
  • Three plus years of relevant experience
  • Fluent in Mandarin


Physical Requirements

  • Evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
  • Regularly requires standing and sitting for extended periods of time.
  • Occasionally requires lifting up to 50 lbs as appropriate to move product.


Work Conditions:

  • Open Office Environment
  • International and Domestic Travel up to 20% may be required
  • Position located in Bluffdale, Utah - no relocation available
