General Summary of Position

Lead and manage the new business development road map for Goal Zero portable power solutions within the Business-to-Business market segments.  This position is primarily responsible for tactical development, negotiation, implementation and driving performance of partnerships with key companies, distribution partners, and new markets beyond traditional retail and online channels. The ideal candidate is detail oriented, relentless, curious and hungry to drive sales. This individual will also be comfortable navigating all layers of an organization – from executive level, to technical engineers to front-line product users. As a member of the Business Development team, this position is responsible for bringing new/big ideas to the table and creating new revenue streams through new and alternative channels. The right person will have exceptional business skills, including the ability to navigate and prioritize a large array of opportunities to drive opportunities from idea, to execution, to large scale channel opportunities.

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Lead the strategic development and deployment of business development efforts for key growth initiatives driven by the strategic leadership team. Depending on the current initiatives, these could include emergency response/tactical, professional markets, automotive and other vehicles, NGOs, government, municipalities, etc.

 

The vision for this role is that it will drive the execution of growth initiatives, from the early business case through to successful maturity of the channel for hand-off to traditional sales teams. This end to end business development for key markets/categories include:

  • Identifying target segments based on needs for our product solutions and sizing markets, as well as our potential attachment to those markets, and prioritizing high potential opportunities
  • Providing data driven recommendations to our strategic leadership team to select key growth initiatives targeting specific markets, then take direction on the focus for these efforts to set short- and long-term goals for the channel, then selectively and aggressively grow the channel to maturity
  • Researching, determining, and executing on the best ways for the product and brand to get exposed and adopted by these markets, including understanding the key decision makers and the decision making process, primary ways to generate leads and build our brand in that market (trade/buyers groups, trade shows, publications), and identifying major potential accounts and specifically finding ways to build inroads with them
  • Creating and managing a sales pipeline appropriate to that market, including lead generation and processing and chaperoning new leads/accounts to their full potential
  • Developing a sales strategy specifically targeted at these markets and customers to help drive high adoption and sell through, targeting top level strategic accounts, typically at the executive level and then driving towards deep partnerships with buy-in across the customers’ organization
  • Lead negotiations, coordinate complex decision-making processes, and overcomes objections to capture new business opportunities
  • Understanding the Goal Zero product line with a high level of technical acuity, preparing powerful presentations and training materials, and communicating the use and integration of these products as both functional and business solutions
  • Listening to and understanding the customers’ needs for solutions we don’t have in place and providing a feedback loop to our technical and strategic leadership to help drive long term product solutions

 

Additional Responsibilities and Skills:

  • Identify, on-board and integration national distribution partners
  • Work closely with the engineering and product development team to map out our short-term and long-term product roadmap
  • Determine key promotional, tradeshow & event based strategies to drive new leads
  • Drive sales growth and performance with existing Business Development accounts
  • Manage a team to expand current accounts and inbound lead management
  • Evaluate potential business deals by engaging with partners to further discover and qualify opportunities.
  • Seek out, activate and develop new sales opportunities in new markets with existing Goal Zero products

 

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in marketing, general business or operations management or similar field, required
  • Technical Education and/or experience, preferred

 

Experience:

  • Minimum 7-10 years of experience in business and channel development, and alternative channel experience, preferred
  • Experience with establishing new customer relationships and brand/sales strategy, preferred. 
  • Project Management skills, preferred

 

Physical Requirements

  • Occasionally requires lifting up to 50 lbs. of product as appropriate to perform duties and responsibilities
  • Position to be located at Goal Zero in Bluffdale, UT.  No Relocation Available

 

Working Conditions:

  • Open Office Environment
  • Travel approximately 25%
