General Summary of Position

The Embedded Systems Engineer will work on new product lines, taking our current product offering and innovating beyond today’s features and specifications. We are looking for individuals with a passion for technology and strong skills in embedded design that build help form the foundation of our power electronics products. This role will join the engineering team within our product development group, working alongside our mechanical, firmware, and electrical engineers to design upcoming innovative products.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Firmware development:
  • Manage, maintain, and enhance the development of firmware for MCUs and SoCs used as the controllers in our systems
  • Write control systems algorithms for applications such as DC-DC and DC-AC conversion, max power-point tracking, fault condition protection, charge controllers, new and existing communication protocols, and display drivers
  • Highly capable at design development, analysis, verification, and troubleshooting
  • Work tightly with hardware engineering in developing and defining the specifications for future products, including recommendations on emerging technologies and design best practices.
  • Close cooperation with project managers to deliver products within scope, budget, and quality requirements
  • Conduct and participate in hardware and software reviews
  • Document design to facilitate interaction with other developers, manufacturing partners, QA, and product documentation authors
  • Proficient working alongside teammates as well as an independent, self-starting individual contributor


Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering Computer Engineering, or a similar field of study, OR minimum of 4 years of directly relevant work experience
  • Must be proficient with microcontrollers and low-level firmware that interacts directly with board-level hardware
  • Must have an understanding of electrical schematics and basic layout of digital and analog circuits
  • Must be proficient in C/C++


Preferred Requirements

  • Strong preference for applicants with a BS in CS, EE, or similar field PLUS 3 years of directly relevant experience specifically in software design on embedded platforms as it relates to consumer electronics or power electronics
  • Strong preference for applicants who can demonstrate command of MCU peripherals such as PWM, ADC, DAC, Timers, LCD Drivers and Button Interfaces
  • Proficient in JavaScript      
  • PIC and/or ARM architecture experience
  • Possess Working knowledge of communication protocols such as I2C, SPI, UART, CAN, etc.
  • Previous Experience with lab equipment, including oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, power supplies, etc.
  • Possess solid board bring-up, testing, and debug skills
  • Previous Experience in power management, power-on self-test, and fault handling
  • Possess familiarity with IDEs, programmers, and generally debugging tools such as logic analyzers, trace, and profilers as well as common interfaces such as JTAG
  • Previous Experience with version control a plus, e.g. Git
  • Comfortable with datasheets, part selection, and sample procurement
  • Previous Experience with consumer electronics products/goods a strong plus, including work with batteries, lights, power conversion
  • Strong sense of organization and efficient design in both system architecture and individual algorithms


Physical Requirements

  • Regularly required to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time, to use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms
  • Ability to occasionally lift and/or move items over 50 pounds

  • Domestic and International Travel less than 10%
  • Evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
  • Ability to work in an office environment as well as out in the field.
