General Summary of Position

Goal Zero Product Development is responsible for the internal design and qualification for all products.  We have a strong local team and we also work directly with our partners in Asia to manufacture what is designed here in Utah.  We have expertise with solar panels, batteries, LEDs, microcontrollers, IoT, and power electronics.  Our team is passionate about inventing the future of this industry.


This posting is for an Electrical Component Sourcing Specialist to work with us on procuring electrical components to support our portable power line.  We are looking for individuals with a passion for technology and a strong interest in design that helps to form the foundation of our power electronics products. You will be joining the engineering team within our product development group, working alongside mechanical, firmware, and electrical engineers to design and maintain our innovative products.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Core duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Identify and qualify trusted suppliers of quality components who provide competitive pricing and on time delivery
  • Examine the Bill of Materials for existing and upcoming products for opportunities to enhance performance, shorten lead-times, and/or reduce cost
  • Conduct periodic audits of part availability, life cycle, and revisions
  • Liaison between internal purchasing supply-chain, out-of-house manufacturing teams, and component supplier representatives
  • Serve as librarian for CAD tools, adding, validating, and maintaining component databases
  • Knowledgeable in component selection through datasheet analysis and part parametrics as it pertains to various controllers and discrete parts
  • Document design to facilitate interaction with developers, project managers, manufacturing partners, QA, and product documentation authors
  • Proficient working alongside teammates as well as independent, self-starting individual contributor
  • Electronic rework skills to prepare substitutes for testing team

Minimum Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a similar field of study, OR minimum of 2 years of directly relevant work experience preferred
  • Basic knowledge of product design in order to understand bills of materials, engineering documents, reading schematics, wire diagrams, component datasheets and PCB rework methods preferred


Preferred Requirements

  • Possess familiarity with component library management software
  • Exposure to microcontroller-based design and power conversion concepts
  • Basic knowledge of version control a plus, e.g. SVN, Git
  • Previous experience with consumer electronics products/goods
  • Experience with lab equipment, including digital multi-meters, soldering irons, hot air reflow


Physical Requirements

  • Evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
  • Regularly requires standing and sitting for extended periods of time.
  • Occasionally requires lifting up to 50 lbs as appropriate to move product.

  • Open Office Environment – Primary
  • Warehouse Environment - Secondary
  • International and Domestic Travel up to 20% may be required
