This is an exciting time to join Goal Zero; our rapid growth means adding 50% to our team and moving to a NEW larger facility.  Goal Zero is seeking a dynamic Head of Human Resources to join the team, tell our story and help us grow.  As our Head of HR, you will focus on the following areas: change management, employee experience, company culture, employee & manager development, employee relations, HR Projects/Programs, compensation programs, workforce planning and retention and recruiting.

 

The Head of HR will be part of the Goal Zero leadership team and will report to the VP, Human Resources for NRG Energy – a Fortune 500 company.

 

Duties/Responsibilities:

HR Leader

  • Learn about Goal Zero & NRG and ensure HR practices support business goals.
  • Run an HR & Recruiting function that grows with the business and adapts to change as needed.
  • Build effective relationships with leaders and employees. Contribute thought leadership on building/developing a high-performance company culture.
  • Drive/improve employee engagement through development/support of programs.
  • Review compensation programs and compare to market actuals and market data (PayFactors).  Make recommendations to management on market competitiveness and compensation programs.
  • Understand local market hiring trends and compensation philosophies in relation to retention and rewards programs.
  • Collaborate with NRG’s SME’s and the HR Project Management Office on HR processes and practices.
  • Coach Managers on leadership best practices and provide feedback on style.
  • Provide positive HR support while promoting self-service with available systems and procedures.
  • Prepare reports and analyze HRIS data for HR and management decision-making.
  • Work with leadership to develop/implement a Goal Zero employee communications.
  • Evaluate job families, job codes and career mapping that motivates talent to grow with Goal Zero.
  • Facilitate professional development and training activities for different levels of management.
  • Partner with leaders to confidentially resolve employee relations & performance matters in accordance with company policies, processes, procedures, best practices, and employment law.   
  • Ensure compliance with employment laws/regulations and make forward progress toward the company’s diversity & inclusion goals.
  • Conduct impartial investigations regarding employee matters should they arise.

Recruiting & Growth Initiatives

  • Lead the recruiting team and ensure we attract/retrain talent to support business growth.
  • Develop innovative recruiting approaches & relationships to ensure a robust/diverse talent pool.
  • Partner with hiring managers to ensure recruiting best practices are implemented.
  • Evaluate applicant assessments/screening/interview approaches to identify candidates ready and able to operate in a hyper-growth business.
  • Identification of headhunting & recruiting partners & approaches to effectively scale to growth.

 

Required Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree, in a related discipline from an accredited university, or equivalent additional work experience.
  • 10+ years as a HR Generalist in a fast-paced, growing and dynamic organization.
  • 5+ years of HR leadership experience.
  • 3+ years in or partnering with a recruiting function.  Recruiting oversite is preferable.
  • Organization skills, process improvement and handling confidential information. High attention to detail. 
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Experience with HRM software (we use SuccessFactors).
  • Effective with MS Office products (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Visio, etc).
  • Excel skills with advanced functionality. Able to pull/build reports/tables for manager decision-making.

 

Preferred Experience:

  • 3+ years of recent experience supporting a start-up organization from a human resources standpoint.
  • PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP certification is preferred.
  • Experience working in a startup or high growth business is desirable.
  • Past exposure to M&A work is beneficial.

  • Comfortable/effective with all levels of the Company, from front-line employees to senior leadership. 
  • Demonstrated ability to influence others.

 

Working Conditions:

  • Position is based in Salt Lake City/Bluffdale, Utah.
  • Primarily an in-office position: 4 days in, 1 day remote.
  • Ability to adapt work schedule to business demands.  Occasional overtime required.
  • Open office environment.  Some time will be spent in Goal Zero’s warehouse as well.
  • The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading.
