Job Summary: 

The Account Executive position is a key Sales role within the Indirect Sales Channel Team (Desk Team) within the Direct Energy Business service footprint across Canada.  The Sales/Account Executive reports to the Sales Manager – Eastern Canada but will work with both, Eastern and Western Canadian team members.  Broadly, the Account Executive is responsible for effectively managing relationships with 3rd party broker channel partners, and achieving predetermined sales goals by supporting all sales functions, managing and delivering ongoing direct/client commitments and presentations, and utilizing the NRG sales vision to grow this segment inside of the C&I organization. The Account Executive will also aid in inter-departmental strategies and communications related to pricing desk performance and functions with the Desk.  This position is Hybrid/Remote and based in Canada.  

 

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Profitably sell gas, electricity and sustainability products and services to targeted end-use customers via indirect channel partners including third party brokers and consultants.
  • Train indirect channel partners on new products and differentiate Direct Energy Business offers vs competitors.
  • Actively seek out and recommend new products and services that increase profitability of indirect channel customers.
  • Identify and qualify sales prospects, make effective presentations, and close sales within an acceptable time frame and manage and ensure strong relationships with largest Indirect customers.
  • Aggressively pursue track, pursue, and final disposition all leads priced from indirect channels.
  • Manage the ongoing business relationships with assigned indirect channels by maintaining open communication, promoting incremental products and services, resolving customer issues and renewing expiring contracts when assigned.
  • Support the internal deal flow from start to end by working cooperatively and effectively with all members of the Indirect Desk, Sales Support and Transaction Management teams.
  • Assist with the development and testing of new products/services through continuous discovery of customer needs.
  • Maintain high awareness of the competitive environment, gas and electricity marketing trends, and current pricing strategies and utility tariffs.
  • Ability to meet defined sales/financial goals and objectives.
  • Represent company in a professional and ethical manner.
  • Enter sales information into customer relationship management system (SalesForce).
  • Attendance and active participation in required meetings and training sessions.

 

Working Conditions:

  • Hybrid work schedule if local to Calgary, Alberta OR remote/virtual from other Canadian locations (Edmonton, Ontario)
  • Fast paced, highly active environment
  • Standard workdays in Eastern Standard Time (9:00am-5:00pm) with the ability to work outside of standard hours at times to support teammates in west.
  • Business travel required mainly within your assigned territory for customer/broker/internal team meetings.

 

Required Skills and Experience:

  • A high school diploma or GED equivalent is required, and must be 18 years of age or older
  • Working knowledge of Canadian and macro energy markets
  • Excellent verbal and writing skills required
  • Effective presentation skills for group speaking and educating 3rd party broker channel partners
  • Outgoing and engaging personality for managing and growing business relationships with 3rd party broker channel partners
  • Strong organizational skills and time management skills
  • Strong data and analytic skills
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience
  • Ability to travel as needed
  • Effective and efficient in using Microsoft Office programs

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university in business or related discipline preferred
  • Knowledge of Ontario, Alberta, BC, Sask & Quebec gas utilities and pricing mechanisms
  • 2+years Energy related industry experience

 

Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Commercial B2B sales background dealing with small, medium and/or large commercial customers through indirect channels is preferred.
  • Ability to persuasively explain multiple products to a diverse group of business customers.
  • Knowledge of deregulated electricity and gas markets preferred.
  • Must be able to work and excel in an independent environment without daily supervision.
  • Must possess a valid Provincial Driver’s License and proof of insurance.
