Job Summary:
The Senior Brand Marketing Manager, Contractor role located in Calgary, is an exciting position in Direct Energy Canada’s dynamic team. As one of the top electricity and natural gas companies, we play an important role in helping Albertans manage their energy needs.
The Senior Brand Marketing Manager will partner closely with the Director of Marketing to build out Direct Energy’s brand value proposition, as well as drive the full funnel marketing and acquisition strategy across all channels.
The successful candidate will lead a high-performing team and collaborate cross-functionally with creative, go-to-market (GTM), content, digital, product, and external agency teams to ensure brand alignment across all touchpoints. They will also oversee sponsorships and partnerships, playing an active role in relationship management and activation planning for top-tier investments and community partnerships.
We’re seeking a senior marketer who is passionate about branding and understands its role in driving growth and customer acquisition for a year-long contractor role. This role partners closely with GTM leaders to stay informed on pricing, competitive dynamics, and product launches, translating insights into compelling brand campaigns that convert. As the lead on various initiatives, the candidate will guide a team across broad marketing activities including brand strategy, lead generation and SEM, retail sales support, sponsorships, community engagement, and customer experience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Continue to evolve and enhance Direct Energy’s brand vision, promise, and platform to reflect customer needs and market dynamics.
- Lead a team of four, providing day-to-day guidance and personal development planning and coaching
- Own full-funnel campaign strategy and portfolio health across TOFU, MOFU, and BOFU stages.
- Oversee creative development and execution with internal and external partners, including testing and optimization.
- Manage marketing budget across all channels, including paid and digital, ensuring strong stewardship over all financial decisions.
- Ensure consistent brand messaging and visual identity across all customer and prospect touchpoints.
- Partner with GTM and product teams to support launches with data-driven acquisition strategies.
- Monitor competitive landscape, pricing trends, and regulatory shifts to inform marketing plans.
- Support call centre and retail teams with training and materials aligned to brand messaging.
- Lead sponsorship and community partnership strategy, including donations and local engagement and volunteer opportunities.
- Contribute to owned channels including website, social media, and outbound messaging.
- Track brand health metrics and develop marketing ROI and attribution models, as well as creative testing and adapting marketing approaches based on research.
- Actively listen to market and customer feedback, bringing insights to cross-functional teams.
- Ensure all initiatives are well communicated internally across various teams with full transparency, to grow excitement and engagement across all Direct Energy teams.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, business, commerce, communications or public relations from an accredited college or university
- 8-10+ years of experience in marketing, advertising, account planning, brand management or related communications field
- Minimum 5 years leading a multi-disciplinary marketing professionals and coaching to success
- Significant experience with the following marketing channels: mass media, paid and organic social, paid search, email, direct mail, sponsorships and community events
- Familiarity with key metrics for each channel, tracking and analyzing KPIs e.g. MROI and search metrics.
- Comfortable with test-and-learn, adaptive approach to marketing
- Superior writing and communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working in or managing in a marketing agency or corporate marketing department
- Experience bringing a new product or service to market
- Ability to handle ambiguity and comfort in defining appropriate direction for role and product offering
- Experience with using data and insights to target customers and personalize messages
- Experience with GTM approach for rolling out a new product / new program and/or experience in startup environment
- Experience managing and leading marketing strategy for a product or service, including directing others, coordinating with multiple stakeholders including external agency partners
- Experience with Agile ways of working (iterative, fast-paced, MVP-driven approach, ceremonies)
- Strong negotiation skills
