Job Summary:

This position reports into the Director, Digital Management & Product Growth and supports Direct Energy’s efforts to strengthen its leadership in innovative offerings within Alberta residential and small commercial retail energy market.

 

This role is responsible for supporting product innovation initiatives across various customer acquisition and communication channels, particularly digital platforms. The individual will collaborate closely with product managers to articulate user journeys and enhance the customer experience by effectively communicating end-to-end user experiences throughout the product lifecycle. This position involves transforming ideas into essential design artifacts, including user journey maps, wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity designs. By applying human-centered design principles, engaging experiences will be created to meet user needs and drive conversion. Additionally, this role will support product development, ensuring that features, benefits, and value propositions align with targeted segments, playing a key role in the successful launch and evolution of products.

 

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Adopts a human-centered and iterative design approach, collaborating with teams to transform complex problems into effective design solutions.
  • Creates comprehensive product design plans using human-centered and design thinking methodologies.
  • Works effectively with cross-functional teams, partnering with product management  and engineering to conceptualize, build, and ship highly usable products that customers love to use.
  • Produces product design blueprints, illustrated journey maps, and concept designs, product prototypes, empathy maps, and value proposition proposals for the creation and evolution of energy and non-commodity products.
  • Develops the ability to lead discovery work autonomously, typically with guidance and support from management.
  • Crafts engaging and user-friendly experiences by leveraging user research, interaction design, and visual design principles.
  • Competent in user experience design research
  • Exhibits strong core design skills with an interest in developing and exploring additional skills, such as prototyping, visual design, and data manipulation/visualization)
  • Translates product strategy into detailed and presentable requirements, prototypes, wireframes, and high-fidelity designs.
  • Creates product strategy documents that outline business cases, high-level use cases, and technical requirements.
  • Defines and articulate the vision for product design and user experience.
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Working Conditions:

  • Primarily an office environment.
  • Some overtime is required as special projects arise.
  • Some travel <10%

 

Minimum Requirements:

  • A post-secondary degree, college diploma, or equivalent years of work experience in product design, UX service design, or a related field
  • Bachelor’s degree or requirement years of experiences in UX design, design strategy, human interaction, or behavioral science, or related disciplines
  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience in UX/UI product design or equivalent UX design experience (service design)
  • A diverse portfolio of work highlighting cutting-edge product design work, demonstrating a deep understanding of customer needs and unique approaches to problem solving.
  • Proficient in a variety of methods to convey ideas and concepts using various UX/UI collaboration tools; experience in Figma preferred.
  • Ability to conceptualize and ideate through iterative prototyping, thinking in terms of journeys, not screens.
  • Understands and can work with core design strategy and service design methods and processes.
  • Experience working with human-centered design to help a team develop and deliver new products, services, and experiences.
  • Hands-on experience in designing for a variety of digital touchpoints and non-digital channels.
  • Confident in presentation skills and building well-structured presentation decks.
  • Effective in communicating design decisions and rationale to teams.
  • Experienced with prototyping tools and skills for rapid prototyping.
  • Develops the ability to influence and advocate for design solutions through storytelling and context setting.
  • An influencer who values collaboration over their individual ideas, iterates quickly based on data, and delivers recommendations and analysis that effectively communicate the customer experience.
