Job Summary: 

 

The responsibility of this position is two-fold: to facilitate the trading team with fundamental analysis through timely web scrapes, market information, modeling, and reporting; and to assist the sales and pricing teams with accurate and timely pricing for all retail deals. The candidate will work closely with various teams, while maintaining up-to-date models, data tables, and web scrapes.

 

 

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

 

  • Create new scripts for web scrapes to capture market information
  • Develop, maintain and update web scrapes, data tables, and models
  • Develop, maintain, and update various reports as needed by the trading team
  • Perform market fundamental analysis as requested
  • Work with the pricing team to develop and maintain retail pricing models
  • Ensure that all power deals assigned are priced in an accurate and timely manner according to established Sales priorities
  • Ensure processes run smoothly and efficiently and make operational improvements, coordinating with IT, Legal, and Billing
  • Trade entry of power deals

 

Working Conditions:

 

  • Open office environment.
  • Overtime required as business needs dictate

 

 

Minimum Requirements:

 

  • Proficient coder of SQL, and an object-oriented programming language (R, VBA, Python, Ruby, etc.)
  • Quantitative Degree, preferably in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related fields from an accredited college or university
  • Strong analytical skills with strong IT and/or data management skills
  • Statistical proficiency

 

 

Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

 

  • Excellent computer skills, particularly Microsoft Excel, SQL and another programming language
  • Multitasking ability in pressure situations while meeting tight deadlines
  • Strong communication skills, able to develop good working relationships with people
  • Team player with ability to take initiative and work independently
  • Knowledge of Alberta and Ontario electricity markets
  • Knowledge of retail energy products and pricing
