Job Summary
The Marketing Manager supports Direct Energy Canada’s upper- and mid‑funnel acquisition efforts, helping extend our position as a leading utility provider in Alberta’s residential and small commercial retail energy market. This role is responsible for implementing marketing campaigns from concept development through launch, ensuring alignment with company goals and objectives.
The successful candidate will collaborate closely with our agency partner, Go‑To‑Market (GTM), Customer Management, Product Management, and Sales and Service Channels to deliver integrated marketing plans that resonate with targeted segments and drive measurable results.
Key Responsibilities
Campaign Development & Execution
- In a hands-on and detailed way, lead the planning and execution of upper‑ and mid‑funnel marketing campaigns, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to budget.
- Act as the primary point of contact for assigned campaigns (B2C or SMB), accountable for strategic direction, execution, optimization, legal and compliance reviews, and reporting and evaluation against KPIs.
- Support the development and execution of our community engagement, sponsorship, and philanthropic initiatives.
Market & Audience Analysis
- Gather and analyze competitive and market research to identify opportunities and threats, and implement learnings into current and future initiatives.
- Analyze consumer data and audience profiles to refine campaign strategies and improve performance.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with GTM, Product Marketing, Sales, and Operations teams to align messaging, features, and value propositions.
- Work closely with agency, creative, and digital teams to ensure brand consistency across all channels.
- Collaborate with North American brand and marketing teams to drive ongoing optimization of the Direct Energy brand across regional markets, ensuring alignment with evolving brand guidelines.
Leadership & Team Support
- Provide guidance and support to marketing stakeholders and other members of the Brand Marketing and Creative team, fostering collaboration and accountability.
- Contribute to a culture of innovation and continuous improvement within the marketing team.
Performance Measurement
- Monitor campaign performance and deliver actionable insights and reporting that help optimize future initiatives.
Qualifications
Education
- Post-secondary degree in Marketing, Business, or a related field.
Experience
- 5–7+ years of progressive marketing experience, with a focus on campaign management and brand strategy.
- Self-starter, comfortable with ambiguity, and able to navigate it effectively.
- A passion for using data and insights to inform decision-making.
- Experience leading cross-functional teams and driving collective progress toward change and innovation.
Skills
- Strong people leadership and project management skills.
- Ability to interpret data and apply insights to marketing strategies.
- Strong understanding of brand and its impact across the prospect and customer lifecycle.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, including strong writing ability, and the capability to keep stakeholders engaged and well-informed.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, staying highly organized and focused on priorities. Juggling is life, and you thrive doing it.
- Strong negotiation and budget management skills.
- Understanding of accountability to a well‑defined set of KPIs, with the ability to create and execute strategies that achieve those goals.

- Proficiency in current best practices related to AI and marketing.
- Experience in energy, utilities, or a similar regulated industry is a bonus.
- Deep understanding of Alberta consumers and the uniqueness of different markets is a big bonus.
