Key responsibilities include general weather forecasting and analysis, power load forecasting, and renewables forecasting.

Responsibilities:

  • Short-term weather forecasting and monitoring of key weather elements (temperatures, precipitation, wind speeds, cloud cover/solar) that may impact power loads and generation.
  • Generate daily communications on short and medium range weather forecasts.
  • Medium-term forecasting of key weather elements that may impact market prices.
  • Short-term power load forecasting at the ISO level for different regions across the US, including California, Texas, the Midwest and Northeast.
  • Subseasonal and seasonal forecasting and analysis.

 

Position requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Meteorology or Atmospheric Science
  • 0-3 years of forecasting experience 
  • 1-3 years of forecasting experience preferred
  • Ability to clearly communicate critical weather information and risks in a timely manner
  • Strong deterministic forecasting skills; not afraid to make a judgement call during a high impact weather event
  • Ability to work under pressure during critical weather periods
  • Ability to communicate (verbal and written) to all levels of internal and external groups
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member, set priorities, respond to changing demands from various sources
  • Ability to field and complete wide ranging ad-hoc analysis and questions from all areas of the company
  • Effectively communicate weather information in a concise manner to traders and management
  • Maintain relationships with external vendors
  • Knowledge of power load forecasting is a plus
  • Knowledge of python, php, and other programming languages is a plus
